re: Catching up: regular 10s yesterday with palatinus
I know that the regular 10s that palatinus kindly led yesterday had a very rough go. From talking to him, it sounds like both tanks were confused about mechanics of the fights, dps was universally low, and healing was off too. People stood in the wrong place and ate fire and acid in phase 2. Jaraxxas went well, however. Inability to kill the druid on faction champions sounds like priests weren't purging heals and interrupts weren't getting done, together with low dps. If there were people playing at the heroic level (which is the guild raiding level) it wasn't apparent.
The good thing for the evening is that people stuck with it, figured a few things out, and did kill a few bosses in the end.
There are two roads to go with this -- feel bad and pretend it didn't happen, or treat it as a wake-up call, get geared, watch the vids on tank spot, and ASK FOR HELP. Find a skilled veteran or a raid leader and have them explain the tricks for your class for each fight.
It happens to everyone. The first heroic 5 I tanked in BC (slave pens) I was dead in 4 seconds, then again on the second pull. By the fifth the group collapsed. It's ok to fail if you figure out how to correct it and get better each week. Don't blame someone else (or even yourself) -- just figure out what you can do to be a heroic-level player.
I'd like to see this EXACT SAME GROUP go again next week, at the same time, and you WILL clear the instance. By then I want people to know the fights, have macros set up for dispel and spell-steal, mods set up that show timers on debuffs (for tanks), and people need to be talking to more-experienced players. Get off your alts if you've been on them -- I know at least one player on that team is far far behind on enchants. We definitely put Vache in there with insufficient tanking gear, and that was my mistake. We will put guild gold into correcting any gearing issues we can. Let's put a bit of pride into this and get where we want to be.
